PAUL RUDD: Anyway, I heard about you, and I'm like I got to talk to this kid, because this kid sounds like my kind of guy.
[MUSIC PLAYING] BRODY RIDDER: So I walked up to them and I asked, hey, can you sign my yearbook?
And most of them said either like no or like maybe later or in a minute.
Like very few said yes. I wrote in my yearbook I hope you make some more
friends, and mom, she read it. She got all sad, and then she wrote in it.
And then she posted it on Facebook, like all moms do. CASSANDRA RIDDER: I posted that this year things didn't
seem to be getting any better, and the community of the school just rallied behind us and said that they've met Brody,
that he's such a sweetheart. He's so smart, like he shouldn't be dealing with this. A lot of their students, their children,
they had sit down talks with them, and the next day, they all came and stood in lines to sign Brody's yearbook at school.
And local news station caught wind of what the high schoolers did, and it just blew up. So that's what started this whole thing.
Paul Rudd reached out to me through his sister, Mandy. She messaged me on Facebook.
She promise that she wasn't a scam, and I took a leap of faith, and said, OK, I'll
give you my phone number. And sure enough, Paul Rudd called Brody, later that evening.
PAUL RUDD: I heard about you, and I'm like I got to talk to this kid, because this kid sounds like my kind of guy.
BRODY RIDDER: It made me really happy, like really happy, and it made you feel like I have a new friend.
We talked about how he went through the same stuff that I am, and he gave me some tips
about how to deal with that. Like don't listen to them. Ignore them. Tune them out, all of it.
You can't beat them, make them laugh. CASSANDRA RIDDER: He's learning all kinds of different jokes, so I know a lot of these kids are going to love his jokes,
when he goes back to school. He loves dad jokes. BRODY RIDDER: Where do boats go when they're sick?
The dock-tor. CASSANDRA RIDDER: It was just absolutely
amazing to see that somebody like him, somebody famous, somebody that is a super hero, really,
really cares about people. BRODY RIDDER: Ant-Man is my favorite superhero and always has been and always will be.
Who wouldn't want to grow as tall as a mountain or shrink as small as an atom? I have learned that anybody can make a friend,
if you just find the right group. I'm excited to hang out with my new friends. I'm excited to have all these different classes,
and I'm excited for just seventh grade in general. [MUSIC PLAYING]
