"Doctor D" is how he presents himself to his patients with a touch of humor because his last name can be a tongue twister for some folks. I was diagnosed with manic depression (what pop culture calls bipolar disorder) in 1998. My psychiatrist, the MD who treats my mood disorder with pills, referred me to Doctor D for help coming to grips with the diagnosis. Doctor D took me back in time to my early years and we talked about uncomfortable situations I experienced, or how I perceived the ways people treated me. He asked me if I could see now how I might have been in mania or depression. I don't know what Doctor D calls it, but I call it regression therapy (RT). RT opened my mind to the mood I was experiencing while I was interacting me people at that time. It brought clarity and understanding to why some bad things happened in my life. Next, we talked about what I was experiencing things in the present, and learning to identify depression and mania that sometimes overpowers my meds.
