Dr. Whicker is the cream of the crop for helping transgender patients with their transition. I didn't really know where to start when my primary care doctor referred me to him. In our first apt, Dane took the time to get to know me and figure out where I was in my process and worked with me throughout my social and medical transition. He always checked-in with me about how I was doing... He never misgendered or deadnamed me. I never felt judged. He was kind, fun, and witty in our sessions. It also helped that he clearly knew what he was talking about regarding trans care. When my insurance denied coverage for one of my procedures he picked up the phone, and got the procedure covered. He is a strong advocate and definitely well-connected with other trans-affirming physicians at Duke and in the triangle community. He referred me to great doctors for HRT and surgery. I would highly recommend him to any trans person looking for a psychologist for help with the transition process.
