Three professionals clinically evaluated me and viewed my x-rays and only one, Dr. Doug Ambrose, got it right. He suggested inactivity and lots of ice to reduce herniation to try to possibly avoid surgery. He shut down my optimistic suggestions. A local orthopedic specialty clinic took the xrays, sent me to P.T., advised continue activity, which worsened spinal cord symptoms. The well reputed orthopedic surgeon suggested MRI, but as symptoms worsened, his office, system lost & bungled the referral over 3 weeks. MCV Emergency Dept. did an MRI & C. Several herniated discs, one dangerously compressing my spinal cord in a stenotic canal. Dr. Doug, on short but better clinical interview, x-ray viewing, was right. His inferences were confirmed by ER MRI. Another day of activity, per the excellent MCV surgeon, would have likely produced significant permanent cord damage. A C3-T2 fusion and laminectory have greatly helped; most function has already returned.
