My elderly mother was in intensive care in UPMC McKeesport after a heart attack, a fall, and kidney failure. Dr. Gougol and I discussed putting her on a blood thinner. He explained things clearly. After considering various aspects, including her tendency to bleed heavily, we decided not to do this. Man! Was that a good decision! A week later she was bleeding profusely from a fecal impaction. She was taken to another hospital and given a blood transfusion. Thank you, Dr. Gougol for good advice.
