I started to see Dr Starrett in NYC in the mid 80’s. She was in practice with he MD sister. I had been seeing a male gay MD after we were address diagnosed with HIV. His staff sexually abused my vulnerable partner. Dr Starrett and her sister wer the most competent and I would say the most humane people I had met at that time when the AIDS crisis was first building into the horribly mysterious pandemic it was to become. Their office was a true clinic and beacon of hope. I would arrive for my appointment to find half a dozen patients receiving Pentamadine treatments and the whole staff such as she could afford toiling in the trenches, as it were. How those wonderful people led by Dr. Starrett worked and I think suffered. My partner and I survived, I am now almost 74. I had been a bartender. I am now attempting to retire from a career as a Psychotherapist. I speak often to my support groups of my hero, Dr Starrett her sister and their courageous staff who saved my life.
