After the ER visit I thought I was going to have a needle-like instrument inerted into my leg mass to exract a relatively small amount of tissue, a "punch biopsy". A larger portion was removed than I expected, using a scalpel. The wound sure didn't look good before I arrived, but the chunk removed was somewhat significant. The procedure was relatively painless though and they packed and dressed the wound well enough. This first biopsy failed to produce evidence of cancer. I am currently waiting on a second biopsy taken from dead tissue that was protruding out of my wound. It was sent out to another lab for further analysis, results pending. Dr. Jagarlamudi on my Sept 20th appointment made it seem that a deep sample with a needle might get some live cells and a better analysis. He also pointed out how normally that would potentially drag some possible cancer cells along the path of the needle, but since I had an open wound to the apparent tumor it wouldn't be as much of an issue.
