Patient Reviews
Sep 26, 2024
I started having abdominal pain so severe I could barely move August 9th. After many tests, we didn’t have a clear answer that my pain was related to my gallbladder. My ultrasound normal, ct scan normal, bloodwork normal, HIDA scan normal. I have family history of the women in their 30’s needing their gallbladder removed, the pain resembled gallbladder symptoms, we ruled out other possibilities based on my symptoms, and finally I got to Dr. Black. He looked over my charts but when he got in office he took the time to really speak with me and hear what was going on and asking questions as well as answering mine. He let me know he saw my EF % was a bit higher than it should be and it seemed to spasm and asked if I felt pain during my HIDA scan which I did. He told me he’s 60% sure removing my gallbladder would help me and explained it isn’t definitive unless you have stones or sludge which none of that was present in my exams. He scheduled me and assured me if I needed to cancel I could so I could talk with my family. We all decided since my symptoms started my quality of life has declined. I struggle with depression and I combat that with exercise but I was basically bed ridden in pain for days to weeks on end even avoiding fat in foods, missing work, and having a hard time being productive with my everyday habits. So I got my gallbladder removed this morning. I was so impressed with how Dr. Black is as a person, I had to write a detailed review for him. It can be rare to find a doctor who will talk to you without charts, actually gets on your level, hears you, and is honest with you with a sensitivity that makes you feel confident and comfortable. It was human being to human being in his office for a consultation and day of surgery. He also took the time to let my partner know I was okay and waking up from the surgery, my partner even said he was impressed and it helped ease his nerves about the whole situation as well. I really hope I’ll never need another surgery again but if I do, I would be willing to travel to keep Dr. Black as a surgeon. I’m currently recovering and have an appointment to see him in a few weeks to check on my recovery post op. I’ve been able to eat some yogurt and the pain is not fun from surgery but it’s definitely better than how it would be if I ate yogurt pre op.
