In surgery pre-op, Dr. Compton introduced herself as the attending anesthesiologist. At my bedside, she reviewed my records. She identified that I have a severe allergy; she discussed her alternate plan & how this plan would be safe. She then noted that I have Sjogren’s, so she ensured I received mouth-moistening measures in both pre-op & post-op; she also indicated that she would give me eye drops during the surgery to protect my eyes. She next noted that I have Raynaud’s & ensured that the nursing staff gave me extra blankets & other warming measures to protect my extremities. I have never received such high-quality, whole person care, much less from an anesthesiologist. Dr. Compton did not limit her care to an anesthesiology silo. Rather, she looked at me as a whole person to to ensure that I was comfortable, safe, & well cared for throughout my surgical procedure. She absolutely sets the bar for quality, patient-centered care!
