Patient Reviews
May 18, 2024
Dr. Macgowan recently saw my 81 year old mother who had a been given a diagnosis of severe spinal cord compression and a prognosis of imminent paralysis. I joined my mother at the appointment as it is always helpful for a patient, especially a patient who is fearful and under stress, to have another set of ears in the room. Dr. Macgowan’s bedside manner and patience were exceptional. He spoke to her with kindness and respect and listened carefully to her responses. (Previous doctors she had seen asked questions about her as if she was not in the room). He was direct about the seriousness of her condition, but also gentle and reassuring. At the conclusion of the exam he recommended some further testing before deciding on a course of action. We both appreciated that he did not jump to conclusions based on her MRI or rush her into a course of action, nor did he rely on the conclusions of others. He followed up with her and they are working together to determine the next steps. In our
