Two years ago, I developed a rash around my middle that continued to spread, with no reason other than I had been taking a med. (new to me) for about a month. I went to IUHealth Urgent Care out of concern. I want to thank Dr. Stuckwisch SO VERY much for her diligent diagnosis of SJS - Stevens-Johnson Syndrome. I'd never heard of this, but it's a severe reaction to any med. that can occur to any person of any age. Dr. Stuckwisch excused herself to double-check facts before putting me on 5-day steroid script. If not for that, I believe the SJS would've progressed so quickly that my symptoms might have been like those I saw online = terrible allergic reaction that can require hospitalization! It's horrible, when full-blown, like an inside-out sunburn. But I saw my PCP a few days later who continued the steroids another 5 days, and it still took 1 year - yes! - for my body to turn completely red, then peel, then slowly return to normal. No itching/pain, just lots of embarrassment...SJS!
