When your presentation is atypical and labs and imaging aren’t clear you end up with one of two answers: “all in your head” or “this must be rare”. I have had a significant number who didn’t have the time or desire to figure it out and told me i had FND. Dr Barone looked for zebras and took me seriously- he is the reason I can still walk, talk, and cognitively preserved- because he diagnosed and treated Autoimmune Encephalitis. When you are in his office he gets to know you, he respects your opinion and any research you have done and includes you in the care management. He is the doctor you want when other doctors give up. He is also very responsive for any issues that arise when you are not in his office. He called ED docs and managed my care to get them on the right track before they had a chance to tell me it was all in my head.
