Dr. Manheimer writes extraordinarily well although sometimes in a prolix way. Having done my medical school training at NYU School of Medicine and having done three years of Internal Medicine (in those days NYU's Divisions at Bellevue Hospital), I share a real empathy for his vignettes. But I was taken aback when on page 193 Dr. "Mahendra" says "both his parents are physicians", but on page 196 he says "my father was a successful businessman in Pakistan." Literary license is one thing, but are his Bellevue experiences merely his fantasy?
