Patient Reviews
Jun 12, 2019
A thousand miles from home (Orlando) and awakening with what proved to be a corneal abrasion so light-sensitive that I simply could NOT open my eye, I got INCREDIBLY LUCKY in one specific sense: the decision to go to the Eye Institute of Austin, where I was seen and treated (I was obviously not an existing patient nor one with an appointment) by Dr. Gary Rylander. WOW, did I get "lucky!" Almost 67 years of age and have worn contacts since 1965 (NOT "soft" lenses), this was far from my first visit with an eye doctor. That said, Dr. Rylander was nothing less than SUPERB in both his treatment of the abrasion and his reassuring, very affable "bedside manner." Later learning that the abrasion could well have become infected and result in losing an eye, I am forever thankful that my wife and son chose (because of proximity to our lodging) to take me to Dr. Rylander. I am likewise truly forever grateful to this gentleman and his staff, all of whom were nothing less than an 11 ... out of 10!!

Board Certifications
What’s a board certification and why is it important that my provider has one?

A board certification represents a provider’s dedication to ongoing training in one or more specialties, including the completion of intensive exams. While not all specialties have board certifications, if your provider does have one they’ve taken the extra step to master their specialty and to keep up with the latest advancements in their field.
