Dr. Jackson may not be for everyone. Admittedly, reviews gave me pause prior to my first appointment. I have now seen him for years and felt compelled to return here to offer my perspective. First, we should acknowledge that grading psychiatrists with the nuance of a Y*lp review is a bit reductive as every patient is unique and therapy mostly returns what you invest. Dr. Jackson does have a distinct style, which may be interpreted by some as cold or abrasive. I have come to understand that the impartial reflection of oneself is the highest value of therapy, thus respect this apparent detachment for what it is — a skill. If I wanted to talk through my issues in an echo chamber, I could simply call a friend. Dr. Jackson has counseled me through several critical life changes and given me the tools to overcome many of my deepest rooted traumas. He is knowledgeable, pragmatic, and deeply kind. As with any provider, it will take time to build trust and trust to get the most out of your time.
