My adult autistic child had to be admitted to the ER and we ended up staying in hospital a few days. He was very stressed, both from the physical pain and due to a lot of doctors and nurses. they talked too fast, touched him without asking and without explaining what was going on, etc… Dr Raju was one of the great exceptions. He was so kind and gentle that my kid literally felt calmer while he was interacting with him, and that just doesn’t happen. The doctor slowed down his talking, told stories about his childhood, asked permission before touching, every single time, and made sure to explain exactly what he was going to do, and was proactive in trying to find ways for my kid to have less stress or upset for some procedures, but also offered them but didn’t push if we did not want them. My kid had the specialists making most of the medical decisions for care, so I can’t speak to that, but bedside manner was so amazing for a frightened patient that needed some accommodation.
