I met Dr. Berman in the early 80's when I had an Rx interaction with a food I ate. It caused my blood pressure to skyrocket, and ended up in the ER. Dr. Berman was called in as a consult. He immediately looked me in the eye and gently said he was called in to make sure I hadn't been trying to hurt myself. His transparency and respect won me over at once. I eventually saw him at his private practice for periods of time over the course of a few decades. His intelligence, compassion, and active listening made him the best psychiatrist I ever met. He treated me as a decent human being and not as a pathetic, damaged soul.I thrived under his care as did several people I had referred to him.
