Dr. Rivera was the first Psychiatrist I saw after getting out of prison..had a lot of setbacks and painful memories in life. A lot of negativity, like I was in a maelstrom of turmoil and hate. My depression would keep me hating myself enough to exercise and anxiety kept me fearful enough to stop from looking for help and forming meaningful relationships. No person is without flaws, but it is our imperfections that make us perfect in our own way. That is what I believe and what I received when talking to Dr. Rivera. He helped me feel welcome. He listened intently, not like other doctors who are just nodding their heads and saying mhmm or uhuh. He cares. He has compassion and understanding. Like many of us who suffer from mental health impairments, that can be both a gift and a curse. But it was because of Dr. Rivera and his progress with me that has led me to pursue psychology and to learn to love and respect the person that I am and am becoming.
