Dr. Kara Maxwell is a geneticist at the Basser Center at the Abramson Cancer Center at University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA, specializing in breast cancer and BRCA genetic disorders. She is simply the best doctor I've ever dealt with. She's kind, listens well, is extremely knowledgeable, and explains everything in a way that you can easily understand what's going on. For me, she is a hero as well. Dr. Maxwell saved me from the traditional treatment for BRCA genetic disorders, which is a double mastectomy. Instead, since I did not yet have cancer, Dr. Maxwell prescribed Raloxifene, which significantly reduces breast cancer risk, plus a frequent breast cancer screening regimen. Three years later, at age 61, I am still cancer free, and I have Dr. Maxwell to thank that I am still living my life with my natural breasts.
