Dr. Bryant-Piatkowski looked at my mammogram and was a little concerned, so she did an ultrasound. After studying that for several minutes, she said she thought I was OK. A few days later a nurse called and said the doctor had taken another look at my ultrasound and thought there was something a bit off about it, and to be on the safe side, she wanted me to come back for a needle biopsy. That showed cancer cells, so we went forward, and I had a lumpectomy. The tumor was small & slow growing, so chemo and radiation were not required. I feel a ton of gratitude to this doctor who didn't stop looking at my test and decided to proceed anyway. The lumpectomy was the easiest surgery I've ever had. A little discomfort but no bad pain, and the cancer is gone. When I think of things that other cancer patients have gone through, I feel so fortunate. Who knows what might have happened if that tumor had not been detected early.
