I had terrible ear and jaw pain for weeks and it was making it unbearable to exist; I’d been to every doctor, and no one could figure it out. My boyfriend finally took me to the ER at Kaiser one super-painful night. Dr. Chow walked in, said ‘trigeminal neuralgia,’ and prescribed carbamazepine. Within a week, I was cured and the pain never came back. It was a weird thing - my age and the presentation was unusual, so no one thought of it. Dr. Chow figured out immediately what no one else could and totally saved the day.
