my ten year old son was transported to the ER with a metal rod impaled five inches into his thigh a few weeks ago. When we got there there were 25 doctors (pediatric ICU Dr Alder, orthopedic surgeons, ER dr, nurses, techs, etc). From the time we arrived until they removed the rod it was less than 25 min. They had my son in the room, assessed him, devised a plan, & executed it so quickly and seemingly effortlessly with such calm about it!Dr. Alder was nothing short of incredible!! While the ER doctor jumped into action treating my son, Dr. Alder was so calmly explaining every single thing they were doing to me in language I could understand. My son had to stay the night in PICU where Dr. Alder was his physician. He went to bat for us with the pharmacy over IV antibiotics. He moved so quietly while my son was trying to rest. He’d come in and if my boy was sleeping he’d whisper “I’ll come back in a bit so he can rest”. Just so respectful of the process and seemingly so compassionate!
