Dr. Minh Phan, our oncologist, was superb. He put us at ease and was truly sympathetic and did his best to hear all our concerns and thoughts. Together we arrived at the decision that my brother should be put on hospice. Treatment would have been too severe for him to endure and even if we got remission, his quality of life was already sad and would have been more unfortunate. As it turns out, [patient] passed away five days after this visit, and on a day that fell before his treatment even would have been scheduled to begin. He passed away in the early morning hours of Aug. 17. So our decision was fitting and appropriate. Dr. Phan was highly empathetic and we were very impressed with him.
