For my knee replacement Dr. Yoder explained the two options for sedation pros and cons. While I opted for the spinal procedure, because of the L-2-5 metal in my back for a previous fusion, he was not able to proceed. I did not know this while I was mildly sedated when they put me in position for the spinal tap but after surgery I learned I was under general anesthesia. This type of sedation allowed me to leave for home much earlier than the spinal. My surgery was at 7 am and I was eating a full breakfast in my room with no problem.
