After a few years of bad/average doctors, you start to believe this is the standard for care. But the minute a truly good doctor walks through the door, you know it. I had been in the Damariscotta branch a few times for vaguely related issues, and Dr O'Brien took the time to actually read my chart before our visit, and discussed my case with his colleagues who had seen me before. This meant that by the time he got to our appointment, he had a good idea of my issues and had started connecting dots that other doctors had not been able to. Even so, he was not quick to jump to conclusions, and listened attentively, making sure not to overlook anything or take symptoms for granted. He explained his diagnosis, his reasoning for it, and the best course of action forward in a way that turned what could have otherwise been conveyed as bad news, as a positive and optimistic solution going forward. His "bedside" manner, his willingness to listen and his compassion put him miles ahead of his peers
