I was referred to Dr. Vargo last August. He's part of a specialized team treating aortic conditions, particularly for Marfan patients.Initially, he explained that proactive dissection repair isn't recommended without specific risk factors. By February, my aorta had dilated further, and Dr. Vargo outlined a two-stage plan: first redirecting critical arteries (done by Dr. Caputo), then replacing my aortic arch with a Frozen Elephant Trunk graft. What I appreciated most was his thorough explanation of possible outcomes: ideally, the dilation stops and dissection stabilizes; alternatively, either a minimally invasive stent procedure or a full aortic replacement might be needed. While surgical care was excellent, the step-down unit's quality varied considerably.
