Dr. Teirstein performed a TAVR procedure to replace my aortic valve with an Edwards SAPIEN 3 Ultra Resilia Heart Valve. Although most TAVR procedures are done via the groin, I asked if the axillary artery in my chest could be used and to my surprise, that is exactly what he and his wonderful team did for me which made care and recovery of the site easier on me. I should mention that after the procedure, I read more about the axillary artery and learned that it is a more difficult procedure than going through the groin. It was one day in and the next day discharged home with no complications. The entire experience from pre-procedure through post procedure seemed to go extremely well. The only issue was having to be at the hospital by 5:30 am on the day of the procedure. The doctors and nurses were all very caring and pleasant. I will be forever grateful to Dr. Teirstein and his team and to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla...what a great place with great people.
