The key was and is...The Biofilm Theory of Wound Care which spun off new cognitive dissonance that these wounds were not healing because the patient was broken (diabetes,hypertension, heart disease, smoking, etc.. ). Wrong, your treatment is broken. Target treating based off of culture results doesn't work for chronic wounds. It's the biofilm causing the damage, and biofilm rarely grows in culture if so it's almost never the bug that is destroying the tissue. The bacteria in the biofilm are the culprit and this MD. figured out how to detect which bug in the biofilm was causing this pathology, thus how to properly treat infectious disease in chronic wounds.
