I can see how some people might find him abrasive or arrogant or detached or however one might feel when someone knows their stuff, sees through them, and gives them some no-nonsense feedback if it's not how they relate to others. Personally, I was looking for someone who listens but without coddling, someone knowledgeable enough to sort through the mess that I was in order to identify my problems, call me on my BS, propose solutions, and be flexible enough with my responses to treatment that I didn't feel I was being handled like a child. It's what I got. I was heartbroken when Dr. Alessi left the practice that my insurance covered and I had no choice but move on to a different psychiatrist. Thankfully, he had done such an outstanding job finding the right meds cocktail for me that I've mainly been seeing shrinks for medication management since, not much else.
