How likely are you to recommend Dr. Schnitzler?
I am a patient of Dr Schnitzler and have always been appreciative of his care. But, my review concerns his staff involving a current medical situation I find myself in. I was on a Caribbean cruise last week. I have COPD from many years of smoking (finally quit over a year ago). During the first 2 days of the cruise I was feeling great. The large amount of walking you perform on these new, huge ships did not bother me, but on day 3 of 7 things changed. While walking, my breathing became bad and I experienced burning sensation in my chest. I thought that the burning was perhaps caused by the large amount of pineapple based alcohol drinks I was consuming, but decided to see the ship Doctor. After analysis and an EKG, not really being able to tell the problem, but believing the symptoms were an indication of angina, he wanted to admit me to the ship hospital and airlift me to a Mexican hospital. I refused this and spent the next 5 days with limited drinking (what a shame) and little walking - a great deal of time in my cabin. I really wanted to consult Dr. Schnitzler’s office, upon return, to set a course of action. I called the Monday morning after my return home, could not, of course, obtain a quick appointment, but then asked if I could just talk to a PA about my situation. I was told I would receive a call later that day – of course the call never came in. I called the following day, again talked to the reception person about my dilemma, about never receiving that call back. She transferred me to Jackie, a scheduler for the PA. I told her that I was promised a call back, never received it - her attitude turned kinda’ cold. I explained my situation again. She advised me that the PA was very busy and asked me if I would like an appointment, to which I gladly said yes. She advised that the next PA appointment was in October. I said concerned, I could be dead by then if there actually was a problem with my heart. To which she coldly stated – if you are feeling that bad, go to the emergency room. At this point I simply said Good-bye. My anger is this – I do not know if there is a heart condition that I should be concerned about. I feel OK. My concern is that the Doctor on the ship was very concerned, very insistent that I could be in immediate danger – but I feel OK. I was hoping my cardiac doctor, Dr. Schnitzler, or his office, could at least talk to me about my next step. There was simply NO concern or medical professionalism shown by his staff and Dr. Schnitzler deserves better. I guess I am off to the emergency room
