While Dr. Messier maintained a serious demeanor during most of our time together I personally found that to be exactly what I needed. I have type2 diabetes and as a consequence of that I needed to have most of my left leg amputated below the knee. Dr.Messier was exactly the surgeon I needed it that circumstance. He treated me as an adult who was just as much in charge of both the process and the decisions involved in that as I was. In other words he treated me with respect and dignity at all times. He never once patronized me or talked down to me. In that situation I was desperate to regain some sense of control and autonomy. Dr.Messier helped me toward that goal in every he could. If I could make the man my PCP I would. If I need a Vascular surgeon in the future (hopefully not) Dr. Messier is the first one I will call.
