I was checked into Emory H while going blind in Oct 2023. Dr Hutto and team narrowed it down to 1 of 3 rare autoimmune diseases. He sent blood for testing to Mayo Clinic for accurate, consistent testing. Mogad antibodies were found. Mogad is extremely rare, less than 200 cases per year in USA. Dr Hutto set up a treatment protocol from the research based Mayo protocols. IV steroids, followed by plasma exchange and continued oral steroids. My vision slowly improved. I was discharged after 20 days. My vision continued to improve. By Mar 2024 I could again drive and soon started back to work . Unfortunately Mogad has a relapse rate over 80% even while getting meds to prevent it. Dr Hutto was awesome. My care team had a nurse, a former CDC research, an aerospace engineer and a software project manager. We asked numerous detailed questions. He took time to answer each question in detail. He was very upset front and made no promises of the future, but gave us the needed info to handle it
