Dr. Akers followed our child when she transferred from another hospital to Mercy NICU and the Pediatric Dept. He called us before we reached the hospital to reaffirm she was doing well and to get her parent’s concerns and desires. It’s not easy having a child and having them under medical care, and not being able to take them home right away. Dr. Akers always made us feel heard as parents and included us in the decision making process. We had regular communication with him after morning meetings which we were able to attend, he was knowledgeable in this profession looking up updates to standards since his schooling and looking at the individual situation vs. looking at each scenario we faced as black and white. He and his staff and overall compassion as a father himself, really made our experience the best it could be under the circumstances. Happy to have our child home now and the knowledge and resources doctor Akers and the healthcare team provided to us.
