Dr. Thomas saved my life and preserved my ability to have children in the same surgery.She was the only surgeon willing to perform a myomectomy instead of a hysterectomy. I had nearly a dozen fibroid tumors, and every other surgeon recommended removing my uterus as the easiest and most cost-effective option at the time. This was about 12 years ago, early in Dr. Thomas’s career. Despite being one of the youngest gynecologists on board, she was a true advocate for me. She took on the challenge and risk of removing only the tumors, even though it would be one of the most difficult surgeries of her career.The sonograms indicated about a dozen tumors, but once she began the procedure, she discovered twice as many, some hidden from view. At the time, my condition made me appear almost eight months pregnant. The surgery lasted over seven hours because some tumors had attached to my blood supply, causing severe bleeding.
