I am a 78 year old male and I was recently told that the only way I would get relief from my ankle pain was to have surgery. That would mean that the post op physical therapy would require me not to put ANY weight on my right ankle and leg for 3-4 weeks. That would also mean all the weight would have to be put on the left leg, which has issues of it’s own. So I made an appointment with Howie to ask his opinion on my situation. He told me that he looked at my x-rays and MRI and he said “give me 3 weeks and if I can help you. And if I can’t you can go ahead with the surgery”. We started that day. I saw him and his assistant, Karen O’Donnell, for a few weeks and with a little stretching and strengthening exercises, saw improvement within a week. He suggested that I see an orthopedic doc for a well-placed cortisone injection and I now feel better than ever. I walk better and I sleep better. I am truly grateful to Howie, Karen, and St.Luke’s for giving me these gifts.
