We met with Jacques off and on for 15 years as he made the transition from general psychotherapist to focusing his practice on addiction treatment. Both of us were wounded by forms of trauma, though the types were quite different. The effect on me was gradual but eventually transformational. Our initial contact was in the context of a crisis in my wife's life related to her childhood trauma. Over a period of a few visits, he was able to bring out much of the key circumstances that she had totally suppressed. That threw light on many puzzling aspects of her behavior. As time and life events led to subsequent trauma-related critical events, those revelations proved critical to her progress. No analyst can be perfect for every client. Jacques has found that listening and repeating in different words is effective at confronting half-truths. That worked with me, but less for my wife. But the foundation he laid paid off later with another (slightly gentler) therapist.
