I have struggled with chronic autoimmune illness since childhood. I grew up going to doctors who told me that they couldn’t do anything for me, or that it was “all in my head.” Because I “looked” healthy, I did not get the proper attention or empathic care I was needed and was seeking. Growing up I minimized my experience and told myself that “this was just how it was going to be” and was told over and over by family and friends that everything “looked normal.” My symptoms continued throughout adolescence and I hit a breaking point in my adulthood years. It was then that I knew what I was going through was not normal or healthy. After making a big move to Port Angeles, I was expecting to feel ill for the rest of my life- I had a stressful job and started to have a major flare up of symptoms. Thankfully, I found Dr. Sculley. When I first met with her, I immediately felt heard and respected. She validated me and helped me realize that I wasn’t just “making things up” with my symptoms and
