Maria has been a blessing in my life. She actively listens, provides appropriate feedback (gentle vs. constructive) and validates my feelings/experience. She’s also relatable and down to earth which makes it easy to talk to her. Maria shares truths with me that still respects my emotions and also makes me aware of where I may improve. I had a situation that I didn't want to tell her, I was so disappointed in myself, but I did tell her. Her response wasn't any judgement, it was encouraging and comforting. She told me that I deeply cared about what I had done and that I had taken the hardest step of being honest about it so I could be "better". Maria, almost verbatim, "That is not who you are. I know you. That is a behavior that should be improved, but it does not define you.". I have respect, admiration and appreciation for her. I still have stuff to be mindful of, however, I do not think I'd be as progressed as I am today if it weren't for her and a few other doctors.
