When I first met Ms. Pat, she immediately made me feel cared about. She has a wonderful smile whenever she greets me. She takes everything I say seriously, but then she’ll smile & say something that tells me that no matter what terrible thing I’m revealing, she still thinks I’m a good person. She lets me talk at great length, but will interrupt me at points so I don’t go on forever, & I like that because I know she’s really listening & I always like hearing what she thinks. I actually had a therapist once who never interrupted me—he would fall asleep during our sessions! Then when he awoke, he had no relevant comment to make! But Ms. Pat isn’t like that. She is always interested in what I say. (Such a gift!) She also always understands what I’ve gone through or what I’m dealing with. She offers explanations & suggestions, & expresses anger about what I’m angry about, & shares the poignancy or humor of something I describe. Because of her, I never feel I’m alone. She gives me courage!
