During my first visit, Dr Somov managed to teach me how to divorce myself of the habit of beating myself up over past mistakes. That alone is huge. His "style" might not be for those whose psyche is on the delicate side. He is rather perceptive and fully capable of calling you out on your bullsh*t, which he did with me, but not in a condescending way. It was more of a Socratic walk, with his questions and our discussion allowing (permitting/enabling/directing?) me to logically arrive at the truths that my ego might have otherwise preferred to subtly hide from outside. I.e. he was intelligent enough to see what my intelligence would calculatingly hide. I'd been to other therapists before; this was different. It wasn't flowery cheerleading. It was acknowledging what I am, and how my constitution and behavior contributed to some of my difficulties in life and how adopting a change in perspective could relieve a lot of self-generated tension. I always looked forward to each session.
