Why Do People Get Retinal Detachments?
Retinal detachments have many different causes. Watch this video to learn more from Dr. Manvi Maker about why people get retinal detachments.
Transcript
Retinal detachment has many different causes. Some of the most common kinds we see are caused from initially tears that happen in the retina.
And how that happens is there's jelly substance called the vitreous that fills the inside of the eyeball. With time, that jelly becomes a little bit thinner
as we get older, and can sometimes pull off of certain parts of the back of the eye. In that process, it can sometimes
tear the retina with it. And once the jelly has torn the retina, it can actually go through the hole, and start pulling off the retina kind of like wallpaper.
