Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo is not a genetic disorder. BPPV cannot be passed from one generation to another. BPPV is caused by disorders within the inner ear that affect how the nerve receptors within the inner ear canals perceive motion. Ear infections, viral infections, head or ear injuries are often the causes of BPPV.
