answer

If there is five grams of fiber or more/serving of a food, you can subtract half the grams of fiber from your total carbohydrate intake of that food. You can only do this deduction if the fiber value is five grams or more. Adding fiber to the diet may help reduce a person with diabetes’ insulin requirement as well. Another benefit to a higher fiber food in addition to a slower absorption rate of carbohydrate is the heart health benefit specifically from soluble fiber in helping to lower your total cholesterol levels.
