answer
Many patients with heart disease, or even those who have had previous heart attacks, can have a successful cosmetic procedure as well. Just be aware that additional precautions will need to be taken. Your plastic surgeon may request a copy of your EKG from your cardiologist or ask that a current one be performed. Often, the plastic surgeon will ask that you obtain clearance from your cardiologist confirming the stability of your heart disease. There is no reason to become upset or alarmed at this. If your heart disease is unstable, putting you under anesthesia can trigger an erratic heartbeat (arrhythmia) or even cause a heart attack. Any plastic surgeon that requires these additional tests and clearances is only looking out for your safety.
