Can I take my blood pressure drugs before surgery?

You should continue to take your blood pressure drugs before surgery unless your doctor specifically tells you to stop them. In general, patients on chronic blood pressure medications should keep taking them up to the morning of surgery and after surgery as needed. If you are taking clonidine or a medication in the beta blocker class, you should NOT stop these medications abruptly or without first discussing it with your doctor. Goals for blood pressure management may vary depending on the patient and the type of surgery they are about to undergo. Always discuss your complete medication list with your primary doctor and surgeon before your procedure.
