Your liver plays a critical role in almost everything that happens in your body. So maintaining healthy liver function
is vital to your health. One virus that can wreak havoc on a healthy liver is hepatitis C. Hepatitis C is a viral infection that
causes inflammation of the liver and, over time, can cause severe damage to the liver itself. Most people infected with hepatitis C
may not have any symptoms for years until the liver becomes so damaged it starts to show symptoms of liver disease.
Shortly after infection, you might have vague symptoms like fatigue and muscle aches, nausea, and low-grade fevers.
Once the disease progresses, the symptoms get worse and more pronounced. You may bleed and bruise easily or experience
intractable fatigue, loss of appetite, or yellowing of the skin or eyes called jaundice. Other common symptoms include dark colored urine, itchy skin,
weight loss, spider-like blood vessels, and confusion. If left untreated, hepatitis C can cause significant liver
damage and can lead to other liver conditions like cirrhosis, liver cancer, and liver failure. Since people often live many years without symptoms,
the best way to find out if you're infected is to get tested if you're at risk. [AUDIO LOGO]
