When I found out I had type two diabetes, I-- I think I knew that it was coming.
I never wanted it to. I was more upset with myself because when
I had gestational diabetes, when I had pre-diabetes, I could have just easily changed my eating habits.
I did a total 180. I counted my carbs. I started exercising. I joined some recipe websites on Facebook and some support
groups on Facebook, as well. And I love seeing other people's journey, so just getting involved with more people with diabetes
has definitely helped. I want to understand what foods affect my glucose level and which foods I can eat and cannot eat.
I do have to take ownership of my health and ownership of my food. I have to portion control.
An added benefit of taking over my health is that I was able to lower the amount of blood pressure medication that I've been taking I'm just a healthier Laura now
that I've been diagnosed with diabetes and I'm taking care of it. I have several different people who help
with supporting my diabetes. The first one, the cutest, are my children. My daughter is probably a rule follower to the t.
My son as well. He gets more on the worried side than my daughter. He's younger. My husband is definitely a huge support.
So if I make chicken, and broccoli, and asparagus, he's like yeah, chicken, and broccoli, and asparagus.
He doesn't mind changing his diet so that I live a healthier life. One of the best ways to fight diabetes is to do it with those that love you the most.
