So when you come to the eye doctor with a specific question of macular degeneration, each visit sort of starts out the same.
Where we test your vision, your pressure, your eye movement, your pupils, making sure that all these general things are doing OK.
The eyes will then be dilated, and that will blur up your up close vision. Although, your distance vision should be fine.
Once the eyes are dilated, we take a look into the back of the eye, through a lens. And it's, basically, a lot of bright lights that get shined into the eye, so we can
get a good view of the retina. That clinical exam can help us diagnose macular degeneration. If we're doubtful, or if we're doubtful,
is it the dry kind or wet kind, we can sometimes do some further testing to help us figure that out.
