How is sclerotherapy performed?

[MUSIC PLAYING] Once the veins are seen, a tiny needle is placed into the veins and the medicine is injected.
The medicine can be followed to see where it's going to make sure that you're getting an adequate treatment.
Sclerotherapy is performed in the physician's office. Patients need to just have their legs exposed.
And the veins are visualized in a few different ways. Sometimes, the physician will use a magnifying glass,
sometimes a special light, and sometimes a special machine to visualize the veins.
Once the veins are seen, a tiny needle is placed into the veins and the medicine is injected.
The medicine can be followed to see where it's going to make sure that you're getting an adequate treatment.
After sclerotherapy, that part of the leg has some type of compression on it, whether that's by a support stocking or an ACE bandage
or something similar to an ACE bandage. Usually, for a period of somewhere between three to five days.
Patients can do anything they want upon leaving the treating physician's office, including exercise that day.
