What does social well-being mean to the Black community?
Receiving positive energy is an important component of mental health and well-being. Dr. Jen Caudle, DO, discusses data from the Sharecare Community Well-Being Index, which combines individual and social factors to measure well-being.

That importance of receiving positive energy, and how that reflects in behavioral health, we know that those negative feelings start to manifest
a negative lifestyle.
Individuals who identify as Black or African-American, they were two times more likely to strongly disagree
that someone in their life encourages them to be healthy every day. That's a really important component of well-being,
and I think it's the manifestation of privilege. I think that that was really important when it comes to interpersonal relationships, and again, that sort of co-occurrence or co-dependence
that we see within households. The next one was that individuals who identify as Black or African-American were
1.5 times more likely to strongly disagree that they received positive energy from their family
and friends every day. That importance of receiving positive energy, and how that reflects in behavioral health,
we know that those negative feelings start to manifest in negative lifestyle. We know that those negative feelings start to manifest in behavioral health issues.
